When we decided to build an addition onto our home, and remodel portions of the original home, I learned of SAGE Designs through a friend of mine who had hired Sage for their new home design and who enthusiastically recommended him. We interviewed two other outstanding architects as well, and chose Sage not only for his recommendation by a friend, but because he clearly had a great balance of creativity and practicality. He works closely the construction team in a design-build fashion, with careful attention to environmental concerns and efficiency. Over a few months, we met with Sage periodically and gradually watched our ideas and plans unfold onto two-dimensional paper then with three-dimensional computer modeling. Sage is a careful listener and easily blended our ideas with some of his own. It was a fun process! And after the permits were secured and the building began, Sage would periodically visit the construction site and be available when we ran into unexpected needs to tweak the design (the nature of construction). Our house is beautiful, and we could not be more thrilled about it.

We first worked with SAGE DESIGNS NW before it was an independent company, when the eponymous Sage was employed elsewhere. We loved Sage’s initial design, and when we decided to revisit our project, we sought him out in newly formed SAGE DESIGNS. Our home is about halfway built now, and the builders we’ve hired to manifest our dream have loved creating the detail and whimsy that Sage was able to distill from our wild ideas. We have, for instance, an 8-sided cupola perched high on one gable-end, and the finish carpenter framing it (it was a complicated piece) called down when we visited “Thank you so much! This is SO MUCH FUN!”

Sage’s ability to hear what we wanted and create a lovely, modestly-sized home that incorporated all our deepest wishes. We have since recommended him to close friends, and they, too, have been delighted with their results.

Sage was recommended to us by our contractor as they had worked together previously on design/build projects. We wanted to build an addition to the back of our 1910 bungalow and open up the interior and modernize the floor plan.

I had some strong initial ideas and was pretty firm on those, however Sage suggested some functional changes which ended up maximizing the space, increasing overall floor plan efficiency and saving on construction costs.

Sage has been excellent to work with from initial project conception to completion and we remain friends to this day. He accommodates homeowner input and will work with your budget and requirements, and just a stand-up, great guy to boot.

Make sure you invite yourself to his awesome converted school bus/office/studio, usually some cold ones from the local brewery ready to share as well! Thank me later 😉

I hired Sage recommended by Mike of Lasting Nest. My project was a small deck addition to the front of my house. Sage is a great listener. He heard my wishes and reflected back perfectly. Some areas of the project I was uncertain about and Sage was creative with suggestions. But mostly he took my design style and communication style into consideration. What I came up with was a design that fit my needs, wants and wishes. He was so good I hired him a 2nd time for my kitchen project.
